untitled (self portrait)

digital video (variable), 2013

For this piece I was concerned with the production of a dynamic, variable ground upon which an image is simultaneously formed and unformed as it struggles to stabilize in a relative chaos. In this, it expresses a flux between determination and indetermination and its relation to concept formation or representation. This is carried through in the confrontation of the projected image of myself and the fragments of text fragmenting, in constant variability tending toward or away from an ideal state of equilibrium within a relatively closed system.

The video was produced by filming a projection of myself reading a selection from Heidegger’s ‘What is Called Thinking’ onto pieces of theoretical texts blown around by fans within a wood/plexi-glass structure.
