‘Efforts against Entropy’

Porcelain clay (20 - 25cm)

‘Each of us has his or her own urge to grow and each
of us in exercising that urge must single handedly fight against his or her own
resistance.’

Entropy refers to a principle in that a system will move towards its most
disorganised state unless one dispels energy to counteract it. Self sabotage,
self destructive behaviour, limitations and inhibitions are often stiffling or
counterproductive to self growth. However according to psychologists such as
Jung we also have an innate desire to try and reach fulfilment of our
capabilities.

This series explores the contrast and tension that happens with
these somewhat conflicting forces at work. The clay here is pushed to its limit, straining and tearing under the pressure.

 This work
explores the energy required to keep pushing oneself to grow and adapt despite
resistance.
