I keep returning to study this portrait - what draws me in again and again? Is it the intensity of color, the expression, the close cropping that places the figure at the very front of the picture plane? Or is it your title "The Coach" and my own association of this image with elementary school coaches and parents who valued winning a sporting event over the values of protecting a child's self esteem and learning good sportsmanship? I love the dripping paint - -it's the coach who is emotionally breaking down here. He's not making eye contact with me - I'm safe. Your work touches me emotionally - it's very powerful - thank you for sharing.
