I have always been compelled to paint the figure as the human form can express incredible energies in a painting. The western art canon is rich with different representations of the human figure with a focus on engaging the viewer to give the narrative greater power. I’m interested in connecting the viewer to my work by painting the one thing that unites all human beings. The body. Over the last two years I have been experimenting with different ways of painting the figure that goes deeper than mimetical reality. This has lead me to research how I can merge conscious reality with unconscious thought. Dreams are universal to all people, they are timeless, they hold our repressed desires and have evaded scientific explanation. My recent work and future projects attempt to create visual platforms of such thought processes.
