I am 21 and from Los Angeles, California. My work is inflected with the bright colors of this city. I paint to mitigate my anxiety and release my nightmares; this series invokes myths, archetypes and symbols. The content comes from observation and from my dreams, landscapes and contorted faces all jumbled together like a 101 freeway traffic jam. My earliest inspirations were the caricatures of Al Hirschfeld and Mort Drucker, and I’ve drawn and painted faces since I could hold a brush in my hand. These influences have mingled with de Chirico and Basquiat, Rauch and Kitaj, pulp comics and Ralph Steadman illustrations. Ultimately, I am trying to make a striking image that stays with you long after you’ve finished looking.
