Santa Fe, New Mexico is my lugar de nacimiento. The inspiring silence of the desert, and the complex demographics that construct Santa Fe have greatly impacted my aesthetic for portraiture and poetry. In high school, I was usually found photographing farmers markets and green chile, public school children, or flowers and fungi. I spend a lot of time thinking about negative space and what is and isnt there the notion of filling in the blanks with whatever the viewers eyes may create. I enjoy stenciling, film photography, drawing, rubber stamping, and I am about to delve into different types of print making.
The two places I am able to experience peace and silence is through art and the outdoors. I have revolved my life around these two outlets. I study Plant Science and Art as majors at UC Santa Cruz. Art and society is a big part of my life, but science and the natural world is what drives my inspiration day to day. My aesthetic for portraits of people has shifted to an obsession with photographing nature, especially mountains, plants, and fungi. Recently, I have been trying to integrate the two fields with nature illustration and photographing my work space at the Natural History Museum. I am lucky enough to have traveled to many places and have brought back photos and poems from each place. It is my goal to become an ethnobotanist, and to travel and make art about both plants and people of the world.
