In my current work I have created characters that have emerged in a time, where there are contested notions surrounding the roles of gender and tradition within contemporary South Africa. There is a shift in awareness within the youth of South Africa, and as a 90s born individual I investigate self in relation to space in the times we live in today. I insert myself, and essence place the importance of women back into the South African Landscape through the commemoration of our history on public holidays. The characters I've created discourse the significance of holidays such as Youth Day and Heritage Day combined with similar western histories through iconic imagery i.e. Lady Liberty coupled with 'Zulu' motifs and dress as that is a strong part of my identity.
