I am a 26 year old artist, illustrator and Russian translator originally from a small town in Northern California. I currently live in Brooklyn, NY, and in between I have lived in Portland, OR; Kiev, Ukraine, and Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia. A common thread running throughout my work is the relationship between artist and place, which I explore in a variety of media including collage, painting, photography, and drawing. I am interested in the textures, patterns and cultural iconography endemic to my physical surroundings, whether they are the wide sunlit expanses of California, a tiny dacha in a dilapidated Moscow suburb, or the murky depths of the New York subway colored with the visual noise of flyers and advertising. Through my work I hope to create my own visual language of place that plays with an alters its canonical imagery, and to express the fruitful creative friction that exists between artists and their surroundings.
