Crossing Borders began as an exhibition exploring artists’ ideas about boundaries and barriers, premiered on this website in December, 2012. The show featured the work of 37 student and emerging artists from 20 countries, selected from online submissions by an international jury of curators, artists and educators.
In June, 2013, Crossing Borders moved from the virtual to the actual when it opened at San Francisco’s SOMArts Gallery, creating a poignant, global experience for an enthusiastic audience. Since then, exhibiting artists have joined educators and curators from around the world in inviting EAS to bring Crossing Borders to their cities.
In May, 2014, Crossing Borders, Seoul Edition will open at the Gong Gallery in Seoul, South Korea, and will feature 8 artists from the original collection as well as 5 emerging Korean artists. Crossing Borders / Cruzando Fronteras travels to Tijuana in June, where 20 works from the original show will be on view alongside the work of local student artists who have been selected through a juried open call.
