The Places I’ve Been
, 2012
Inspired by an old audio conversation between my older sister (age 5 at the time) and mother. The dialogue consistsof my mother asking my sister about her thoughts of emigrating from Vietnam to Malaysia by boat. Thinking of You is comprised of hundreds of old family snapshots merged into a singular visual mash-up creating an entirely new abstract image. The colors from the snapshots begin to blend into one another as new images start to erupt from the different layers. The images become overwhelming and difficult to make out, allowing the viewer to choose what they want to see, but also interpret their own meaning towards the work.
