We Are On The Same Raft

This work is a contemporary interpretation of the iconic French Romantic painting 'The Raft of Medusa' by Theodore Gericault; the painting draws inspiration from the former in its compositional structure and tonality. The painting also draws heavily from the real-life photojournalistic documentation of refugees from Syria, immigrants from Cuba, and Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar. Though each of these scenarios is picked from three distinctly different geographical parts, all of them are related by a similar fate of humanitarian prosecution, and the desperate efforts of escaping it by staking their life by crossing the water in rafts, sometimes even makeshift ones. The painting depicts their perilous journey and comments upon our atonement as a single human race.
