    Pity of War (Detail)
Tea Stain, Watercolor, and Conte on Fabriano

    Suvendu Bhandari

    Kolkata, India

    More info
My painting speaks of people oppressed by power, who are losing their natural right to live. An unequal condition is being created in our society; darkness has come down upon people's lives. Somewhere in my country a bright student has to choose the path of suicide after being subjected to caste hatred. Billions are spent to set up statues of political figures when that money can be used to serve those in need from our country. It is as if the atmosphere of war is being created around us and this is how we got used to living life.
